We Hold The Power

Women have been able to change the world with odds consistently stacked against them. They have gone through neglect, discrimination, sexism, and much more. There are so many women who deserve to be acknowledged and praised. Today we will only choose a few. These women have been an inspiration, a good influence and worked to make this world a better place. The first woman we would like to honour has a science background and a determination that is outstanding. Her name is Madame Curie. Although she tragically died for her research, Madame Curie paved a way for men and women to advance in science. She opened a door for many and questioned the facts at the time. Her motivation and determination was inspiring to many. Madame Curie along with her husband discovered elements, such as radium, that are extremely beneficial not just to physicists and chemists but to today’s health research as well. She has changed the world with her discoveries and we would like to thank her for all she has done.

Our second inspiration is Qiu Jin. She had the ability to move people with her words. By writing about the strength and power women possess and the oppression they suffer, Qiu Jin was able to create an uprising. Women were able to fight for their rights, for the rights of their daughters and for the rights of the generations to come. Guided by Qiu Jin’s carefully articulated sentences women were finally able to stand up against aristocrats and suppressors. Sadly Qiu Jin was sentenced to death for her “crimes”, but her story and life’s work lives on. Not only was she an avid writer, but was a skilled fighter. She was fearless when it came to confrontations and revolutions but was able to reach out to thousands of women with understanding and compassion. She wrote about her own struggles and hardships, showing women that there is something out there better than the life they were living. We recommend you look at some of the beautiful poems she’s written. The heartbreak and pain is evident but she is able to make dark tales appear beautiful.

The third women on our list is constantly in the public eye today and has made an impact in today’s society. Oprah Winfrey is an icon that uses her stardom and platform to preach equality and empowerment. Throughout the years Oprah has played a huge part in encouraging young adults to be the best that they can be. She helps numerous charities by donating millions of dollars; the three main charities she donates to are The Angel Network, The Oprah Winfrey Foundation, and The Oprah Winfrey Operating Foundation. She has traveled the world influencing change. Growing up in a rough neighbourhood and not having much, she was able to overcome obstacles, hardships and create not just a fan base but a community. Even after all these years she continues to work, hands on, for different projects and hosts events to bring awareness to today’s issues. Oprah encourages women to stand tall against adversities and to find the strength and courage within, that we all carry to stand up for ourselves and for what we believe in.

We have only chosen three women today, but there are countless others who have all contributed so much to society and the world. They have made a difference and we appreciate all of their efforts. Today we picked a woman of science, a woman of literature and a woman of the media. Remember that an individual can make a difference. A community can make a difference. You have a strength and a power that you might not even know you hold. If we work together to try to create a change, we can start to see a beautiful transformation. Spread love, spread kindness and spread joy.
