Hello RebelRoses,
2017 will be over in five days. I repeat...5 FREAKING DAYS!! What a year this has been, from Trump to John Legend being cast as Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar (I am shaking with excitement). We saw a lot of bad things this year, but we also saw some of the best in humanity come out. Women (binary & non-binary) came out and showed the world what we are truly made of. We fought hard this year, harder than ever in recent years and we made progress. Small steps in certain instances but progress nonetheless. Lets not forget those who stepped up and showed the nazis what the world really is-beautifully diverse.
With a year like this where many times it seemed the bad outweighed the good it is time to shed these feathers and grow anew once again. It is time to rise out of the ashes like a phoenix and show 2018 who’s the boss. It is that time of the year where we will make resolutions, set goals for ourselves, and this new year you bet we’re going to follow through on them. We’ll be outlining some steps on how to create the “perfect” resolution for YOU, and tips on how to follow through on them.
Creating a Resolution:
Step 1: Remember you cannot change an entire lifestyle right away, these things take time so start by changing one thing; pick one habit ( ex. smoking) or a way of life (ex. healthy eating) you want to follow and focus only on that.
Step 2: Break that down into simpler steps. We’ll stick with the healthy eating example from above. Create a weekly meal plan, start out small, maybe adding more veggies to certain meals or drinking more milk, etc. Once you get used to weekly meal plans, start with minor diet changes like more protein, etc. (consult your doctor to see if it’s right for you).
Step 3: Plan ahead for any problems you anticipate you may have. We are not Raven Baxter, we can’t gaze into the future, but we can be prepared. Do you have a medical problem that may interfere, does stress impact your eating habits, etc. The more you plan ahead, the easier it is follow through on your resolution
Step 4: Pick your start date, and plan out milestone rewards because in the word of iconic pair Tom & Donna (Parks and Rec) you have to TREAT YO SELF! Contrary to popular belief new years resolutions do not have to start on the Jan 1. They can start the next day, the next week, Hell even the next month if you want. The point is you need to start, of course the sooner the better, but one must mentally prepare themselves for what they are going to do. Getting into the mindset of achievement is also important. As for milestones, it can be something like for every week you follow through on a meal plan you get a small gift for yourself, or have a cheat day of sorts, etc.
Step 5: Aaaand….Action! You are now ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery, well-wishes, health, wealth, happiness, love, healing, and so much more. After careful planning, and readying yourself you are good to go.
Tips To Maintain Resolution
Talk about your journey with your family, friends, co-workers, or whomever you’re comfortable with. Talking about the experience helps with the emotional aspect, and gives you the strength to continue.
If you are struggling please ask for the appropriate help. You are never alone when it comes to resolutions, and sticking to it takes enormous courage and effort so props to you for even starting.
True perfection does not exist. We are all perfectly imperfect beings who make mistakes, and have trouble sometimes, but it does not mean we are any less in any way. Striving for perfection especially for a resolution can lead to unhealthy habits, so remember to not beat yourself up.
Take a break, pick up again or don’t. Creating a resolution and following it through is a personal journey for each and everyone of us. You have 12 months to achieve your goal remember that.
We here at RebelRoses hope you all had an amazing holiday this year. We hope your 2017 wasn’t too rough, and if it was we are here for you. Here’s to making 2018 the best year for all of us. May we all achieve the goals we set for ourselves, support one another, be a little better, understand a little better, make new connections, repair old ones, and most importantly...may we all be happy.
