It’s that time of year again! With all the lights, events and, presents come stress, anxiety and financial woes. During this season people tend to be constantly busy due to the amount of work that goes into the holidays, whether it is hosting a party, wrapping gifts or socializing with family and friends. Here are some tips for everyone who is starting to feel the pressure of the holidays.

  1. Budgeting: having a reasonable price range for everyone allows us to find great gifts without breaking the bank. There are some great DIY options to decorate the house, the tree or the dining room table. You do not need to be creative or artsy to create some beautiful pieces.

  2. Be Realistic: there are people who want to give the best and some want to receive the best. It is understandable to want to go above and beyond during this time. Planning and hosting parties and arranging gifts can cause people to feel frustrated. By understanding that you are one person, that your best is all that you can do and that your effort is appreciated can relieve some of the holiday stress.

  3. Stay Organized: having to buy multiple gifts and go to different events can sometimes become stressful and can be hard to keep track of. By writing things down and planning everything in advance, instead of last minute, can be helpful in reducing last minute panic and it is less likely that you will forget any events.

  4. Sunlight Is Important: the weather can affect people’s mood, especially during this time of year when it is cold, dreary and wet. Seasonal Affective Disorder is something that affects many people. By going outside to enjoy even a little bit of sunlight can brighten your mood even if it is for a little while. This small action can make a big difference in the long run.

  5. It Is Okay To Mourn: it can be hard to celebrate and enjoy when a loved one cannot be with us. Allowing ourselves to remember their memories during this joyous time lets them be a part of our holidays. It is okay to miss their presence, but with today’s technology, we can Skype, face time, email or even send cute letters to one another. Memories can be a great thing but many are saddened by what was. It is important to heal oneself, to cope and, to move on without having to forget the great moments and events in life.
